Editorial Policy

Editorial Process

International Journal of Tropical Hydrobiology and Fisheries is intended for the rapid publication through the IJTHF Editorial System (two weeks due limitation for 1st review) and aims to provide rapid peer review with papers receiving a first decision within an average three weeks. All manuscripts should be submitted directly to editmang@ijthf.com. Managing editor will then assign the article to IJTHF academic editors. Once a manuscript is submitted, the manuscript is reviewed by the academic editor and external reviewers.

If in the judgment of the academic editor a paper is clearly unsuitable for International Journal of Tropical Hydrobiology and Fisheries, it will be rejected without external review. Authors of such papers have the same right to appeal as do other authors.

If a academic editor determines that the manuscript is of sufficient quality and falls within the IJTHF scope, the manuscript will be sent to two or more referees for external peer-review. The reviewers submit their reports on the manuscripts along with their recommendation of one of the following actions to the academic editor:

  • Acceptance: Publish Unaltered
  • Minor Revision: Publish after Minor Changes
  • Major Revision: Review Again after Major Changes
  • Rejection: Manuscript is flawed or not sufficiently novel

Peer Review Process

All material submitted to the IJTHF will be immediately handled by managing editor. Managing editor will be responsible to quickly assess the quality of the submitted manuscript for potential review. If the article meets the preliminary criteria, managing editor will deliverthe manuscript to one of the academic editor relevant to the manuscript and ask expert opinions before further peer review. The editor –in-chief will be notified about the overall process and will give his/her expert opinion for final decision whenever required. The managing editor processes all review-tracks for manuscripts. Authors are encouraged to submit a list of at least three or more experts whom they consider especially suited to referee their paper. Authors may also request the exclusion of potential peer reviewers in submission step in advance. Such requests are usually honored, although it is customary to give authors whose work is criticized in a manuscript an opportunity to respond to the criticism. The subject editors, however, are not constrained to select a referee from that list. All papers are reviewed anonymously by referees who are experts in the field of the submitted manuscript.

If reviewers suggest publication pending major revision, authors will be invited to revise and resubmit the manuscript and to address and respond to criticisms and suggestions by the referees. Reviewers will be consulted about resubmitted manuscripts.

If the manuscript is rejected by one referee but accepted by a second referee, the author will be given the opportunity to revise the article. Referees opposing publication will be required to provide the Subject Editor with detailed, fact-based evidence, demonstrating that the rejected manuscript suffers from specific and significant flaw.

Papers rejected by the International Journal of Tropical Hydrobiology and Fisheries cannot be revised and resubmitted.

To ensure that all manuscripts are reviewed fairly, the names of the referees will not be communicated to the authors. The subject editor based on the recommendations of the referees will make one of the following editorial recommendations:

  • Acceptance: Publish Unaltered
  • Minor Revision: Publish after Minor Changes
  • Major Revision: Review Again after Major Changes
  • Rejection: Manuscript is flawed or not sufficiently novel

Author Appeals

Authors may appeal a rejection of their manuscript to the IJTHF chief-in-editor through the editorial system (editmang@ijthf.com). In the case of a formal appeal, the manuscript and all relevant information, including the identities of the referees, will be sent to a member of the IJTHF Editorial Board. The Board member may review the case on the existing record or may seek additional expert opinion. The Board member will present an advisory opinion to the editors, which will be sent to authors and/or referees with the Board member’s name.

The transfer of copyright form author to publisher must be clearly stated in writing to enable the publisher to assure dissemination of the author’s work to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats.
